The Janet Aiko Sekiguchi Foundation was started three years after Janet's death by a group of her college friends as a memorial to her person and her legacy. The mission of the Janet Aiko Sekiguchi Foundation is to continue Janet's legacy of social justice through urban education and ministry.
Current board members include Valerie (Hsieh) Chu, Salvador Sanchez, Andrew Wong, Dave Hong, Eric Weiss, and Mark Paredes.
Since we are a young organization we realize that our funds start out fairly limited. For that reason, we can only provide a portion of the funding a teacher or missionary will need for his or her work. A majority of the financial contributions we collect in the first few years will be used to build up an endowment fund so that we can carry on the Foundation's efforts well into the future.
Over time we hope more people will want to offer their support, which will allow us to grow. As we grow, we will be able to expand our efforts. For the first few years we expect to be able to fund one individual. But after those first few years, we hope to be able to help provide funding for two individuals.
Beyond that, we are optimistic that the Foundation will have a positive impact in the lives of urban youth and that our efforts can grow even more. And as our efforts grow, Janet's passion and purpose will remain our guide.
